One of the worst forms of acne is acne rosacea. This is particularly true because this is one type of acne that does not cure very easily. Technically, many physicians and medical professionals do not even consider rosacea to be a form of acne; many say it only looks like acne because of the spots and inflammation that it causes. A dermatologist will say that rosacea is really just a disease of the face that is recurring and inflammatory in nature, leaving a reddened appearance.
The pathology of rosacea is such that the capillaries in your cheeks, forehead, and nose are swollen and dilated with blood, and the oil glands in your skin become infected. Rosacea usually marks fair skinned people with red patches on their face. It does look a lot like acne, but as far as treatment goes, rosacea never actually goes. You could treat the condition as thoroughly as you want with the available medication, but it tends to leave only to return again at a later time.
The cure for rosacea is practically nonexistent, following the above statements. Some twenty years back, in 1988, treatment was found for the skin disease that worked effectively, but since the condition is known to relapse and recur from time to time, you may have to stay on it for as long as you leave – that is, you will have to apply the topical medication again and again each time the skin disorder returns.
The pharmaceutical company Curatek came up with an antibacterial agent that had the power to reverse the effects of rosacea on the skin so that the skin looked as good as new. This antibacterial is known as metronidazole and was sold then under the brand name MetroGel. You should still be able to find it in a few drugstores.
There are other treatments that are used on rosacea, but they mostly have side effects that are unbecoming. One such is tetracycline, which has more or less been the standard treatment for rosacea since it was discovered. Metronidazole, a yellow crystalline compound that is also used to treat giargiasis and a number of other infections, has fewer side effects, and does not require such long term therapy.
The acne rosacea treatment by metronidazole was approved by the FDA after experiments were conducted to prove its effectiveness. Within three weeks, half of your rosacea lesions can be gone, while you can be totally cured by the end of six months. Because the disease is a recurring one, you may discontinue the medication, but you are going to have to return to it once the abrasions return – and very likely they will.
Rosacea is a skin condition that is more often found in adults and the aged than in younger folks. However, you may want to go get yourself tested already to know if you are prone. If you can prevent yourself from getting the condition, you may never have to deal with curing rosacea.
